What Can You Do with a Communications Major?
What can a Communications major do anyway? We can do plenty, thank you very much.
This is one of the questions I hear the most as a Communications major. Sometimes nursing, science or psych majors just don't get it. However, I know just how much Communications majors are capable of. Without communications professionals you wouldn't have your favorite TV shows, apps, movies and even your morning radio. I was aware of all of these jobs, but after my trip to Los Angeles with Bellarmine University I was able to see all of these jobs in action.
Radio: While in LA we met the one and only Rick Dees! He showed us how your favorite morning radio shows were produced.
App Production: We also met Emily, a fabulous Bellarmine Alumni, who is a production director at Whalerock Industries. At Whalerock they produce apps for Ellen, the Kardashians, Zendaya, Tyler the Creator and more. Here, professionals in the communications field and developing the newest, interactive technologies.
Television: On this trip we were able to explore Warner Brothers Studios and sit in the audience at the Ellen Show. We saw the huge amount of people it took to make our favorite TV shows come to life. Production assistants, audience coordinators, writers, producers and more all work together to create the shows you can't stop binge watching.
Brand Development: Another service that Whalerock offers is brand development. Whalerock's clients work with public relations managers to build brand recognition. You may not be shopping at your favorite stores or listening to your favorite artists without the work of brand consulting, advertising and public relations professionals.
Event Planning: Lastly, we saw large scale event planning and coordination in action at the Staples Center. I spoke with the president of AEG and saw large scale event planning at work. From planning the events to advertising them to making sure they run smoothly, communications professionals play a major role.
